Welcome to the Art Never Dies website
Art Never Dies first launched into cyberspace back in 2004, and without any significant platform or design changes since then, it goes without saying that it needed a fresh look. So if you’re here – and I assume you are because you’re reading this – then you have landed on the new and improved home of Art Never Dies. Welcome! Have a look around. Things are still under construction in some areas – but for the most part – the foundational aspects of AND are here.
When I created the website – it was my vision to allocate it as 1) a tribute site to my great friend Tom Gallison whom we lost in 2000, (RIP) and 2)as a portal for music projects, recordings and writings old and new. That much has not changed. The Archives section is a little sparse at the moment by design (at the moment it doesn’t technically exist) as I explore options on how best to showcase that material. The Active Projects section is gone. As ambitious as it was in scope, it is not realistically feasible for me to have so many creative endeavors all active at the same time. (Unfortunately, I have a day job.) Notwithstanding style or genre I have decided to place all creative musical and (mostly) solo projects under the umbrella of Dedalus. Needless to say – there will be a lot of activity in the coming months as all these collective pieces fall into place.
Because most times, even I’m confused about the site navigation of Art Never Dies – it makes sense to set forth in writing its structured purpose:
ART NEVER DIES – HOME
This page will showcase news and or featured material – whether it is art, music, literature, multi-media or a combination of those. It could be new content, old content or even content not related to AND. Just think of it as a spotlight as well as a home base.
ACTIVE LISTENING
The Art Never Dies blog page. This will remain as it has always been: a place for written works and observations from yours truly or anybody else who’d like to contribute. (Don’t be shy - drop me a line and I can register you as a contributor.) All previous posts from the old site have been archived and pulled over, though there were some formatting issues in the process that will need to be edited out / cleaned up over time. Jump in and testify!
SOUND PORTAL
Enter the Sound Portal to be teleported through cyberspace on a journey to musical dimensions heretofore unexplored! (Well, something like that anyway.) A showcase of links to sister sites of Art Never Dies – that stand on their own as well as together with AND. The goal of the new Art Never Dies website is to give these related but inherently different sites a space, style and layout design unique to AND. This was one of the difficult challenges of the previous website – where artists sites and musical projects basically existed within the layers of AND. (And thus – they were bound to the limitations of the hosting site.) In this new format – the individual sites can utilize features and functionality as well as design options that optimize and enhance their content, rather than conforming to a standardized template – or having to exist with lack of a cohesive structure. Ah…variety is the spice of life, eh?
TOM GALLISON
The tribute portion of Art Never Dies –a virtual portal unto itself dedicated specifically to the memory of Tom Gallison. Even if you’ve scoured these pages before – I’m happy to report that there is a wealth of new content and much more to come! There are new videos, music, photos, etc – a collection of all things Steuben – all things Tom. The laborious process of digitizing this material has been challenging and time consuming – but oh so worth it. You’ll see.
Enjoy the site!
